"Hoste." From the Latin hospes, the master of guests. In ancient Rome, the same word described both the one who welcomes and the one who arrives. The Greeks called it xenia: the sacred law of hospitality, protected by Zeus himself. That original obligation, to make the unknown guest feel safe, fed, and at home, is the oldest idea in human culture. It is also ours.
